Redesign of an Electric Knife

As part of an engineering design project, I undertook the redesign of an electric knife with the goal of enhancing accessibility to a broader user base.

My approach involved delineating targeted areas for improvement encompassing safety, ease of operation, durability, and accommodation for diverse hand sizes. To validate the efficacy of my design iterations, I conducted user testing utilizing a CAD model interface, wherein participants interacted with a slideshow simulating the operational functions of the knife.

The final design incorporates the addition of a second handle, each equipped with a pull trigger mechanism, an increase in handle thickness for improved grip comfort, the integration of color to the trigger button cable for enhanced visibility, and relocation of the β€œon” indicator for improved user intuitiveness.
